Like so many movies then and now, scenes for Mrs. Doubtfire weren’t actually shot inside the house. In a desperate bid to spend more time with them, the out-of-work actor and his crafty brother Frank (Harvey Fierstein) hatch a plan. Not only that, but the home has antique doorknobs to go with the Victorian-era design of its time. A brick pathway is present for garden lovers and leads to a small patio area with a garden and stone border.
The three-level Victorian house sits in a prime location on the corner of Broadway — an east-west street in San Francisco that runs from The Embarcadero to the sought-after Pacific Heights neighborhood. Matthew Lawrence, who played Chris, was born on February 11th, 1980 making him only 13 years old during filming. The entire movie was filmed in San Fran itself, with scenes taking place in different areas located all around the city. For example, the TV studio in which the main character Daniel Hillard gets a job is located in the East Bay area. Doubtfire goes for dinner, where Daniel has to perform a quick ‘switch’ between characters. The restaurant is actually named Bridge Restaurant which is situated at 44 Church Street, Danville.
